The biggest challenges cancer survivors face: accepting recovery

Why the power of 'yet' can help you acknowledge, accept, and celebrate your recovery from cancer.

As a Cancer Coach, one of the most common challenges my clients face is resisting their recovery, rather than embracing it.
It sounds strange, right?
Surely their fight has been with the illness itself – rather than the process of getting better?
But the desire to get their life back to normal or on a different path after their illness means they’re missing the vital signs that their body is still repairing.
They need to slow down -- not stop.
As a result, they either take on too much too soon, beat themselves up for not having the same energy or physical strength as before, or experience ‘chemo brain’ – aka mental fatigue.
Crucially, they forget to take stock of what they’ve achieved, how far they’ve come, and how strong they are for getting to this point.
The power of 'yet'
I help my clients acknowledge, accept, and even celebrate their recovery.
I work with them to plan and pace their next move so their energy is spent in the right way—not wasted on things that don’t count, like overthinking or people-pleasing.
I help them understand and redefine their values, beliefs, and purpose so their recovery leads to a life they want post-cancer.
I gift the power of ‘yet’: You may not feel ready—yet. You may not be where you want to be—yet. But that doesn’t mean you won’t get there. Recovery isn’t just about time; it’s about trust in the process.
Recovery is the key to rebuilding so you can have a stronger, more purposeful, and fulfilled life post-cancer.
